Special Projects
- HENDERSON LIBRARIES "LIBRARIES ROCK" -- Sunset Garden Club members, as a community service and a "thank you" to Henderson Public Libraries for allowing our club to meet at Paseo Verde Library, assisted the Henderson Libraries "Libraries Rock" summer program by providing materials for "Dinosaur Rock Garden Kits" in 2018 and "Outer Space Garden Kits" in 2019 and assisting children ages 5 to 11 to make rock gardens with succulent plants at Gibson, Paseo Verde and Green Valley Libraries.
- BLUE STAR MEMORIAL -- This program honors service men and women who have served in the armed services of the United States. The National Garden Clubs adopted the program and began a Blue Star Highway system, which covers thousands of miles across the Continental US, Alaska and Hawaii. A large metal Blue Star Memorial Highway Marker was placed at appropriate locations along the way. Memorial markers and Bi-Way markers were later added to the Highway Markers to be used at locations such as national cemeteries, parks, veteran's facilities and gardens. Our club placed a Blue Star Memorial By-Way Marker at Silver Springs Park, Henderson, NV on October 13, 2012.
- GOLD STAR MEMORIAL -- Sunset Garden Club sponsored a Gold Star Memorial marker which was installed in Acacia Park by an Eagle Scout and City of Henderson Parks and Recreation on September 30, 2020. The Gold Star Memorial marker is meant to honor those families who have lost a loved one in service to our country through the US Armed Forces. The name Gold Star came from the custom of families of service members hanging a banner called a service flag in the window of their homes The service flag had a star for each family member in the US Armed Forces. Blue Stars represented living service members while a Gold Star represented those who had lost their lives.
- LIBRARY TREE LANE -- Every year Sunset Garden Club's Floral Design Group makes and donates a wreath to the Library Tree Lane fundraiser for Paseo Verde Library.
- PENNY PINES REFORESTATION -- National Garden Clubs and USDA Forest Service have a partnership in aiding reforestation of the National Forests. Sunset Garden Club participates in the program by contributing money toward Penny Pines Plantations. Each plantation will provide about 200 seedlings which will be planted in Nevada's Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.
- FLORAL DESIGN GROUP -- One of our missions is to encourage individual appreciation of artistic design. The members of the Floral Design Group learn principles to better understand the art of floral design and develop their own individual creativity.
- ANNUAL FLOWER SHOW -- In supporting our annual Flower Show, we follow the directives of our Mission Statement to share our love of plants by encouraging appreciation of all phases of horticulture and artistic design. The show also serves to educate the public about varieties of horticulture that grow well in the Las Vegas Valley climate.
- JULIA MENASCO MEMORIAL ROSE GARDEN -- Located at Silver Springs Recreation Center, the garden is dedicated to the memory of a Charter Member and former Sunset Garden Club President. Our members enjoy exercise and fresh air while nurturing plants in this lovely space.
- STREET TEENS -- A local charity through which our members donate necessary toiletry items, personal hygiene items and clothing for homeless teens who come into the facility to rest, use computers, kitchen, shower and laundry facilities.
- CONSERVATION -- Our mantra is Reduce Reuse Recycle...
